His R.A.N. service record is available, free, online. Alan Bernard Cox was born in Hornsey, London, on 12/7/25 and served in the R.N. from 22/3/43 to 12/9/46 and from 21/7/47 to 20/1/53, reaching the rank of P.O. The W.W.2. awards are confirmed.
He then became a carman before enlisting in the R.A.N. in London on 1/10/56. He was promoted to L.S. 1957, P.O. 1959 and C.P.O. (Coxn) 1964; he was discharged on 30/9/69.
He served at R.A.N. bases around Australia and in New Guinea and was at sea on the aircraft carriers 'Sydney' and 'Melbourne'; the tug 'Sprightly'; the destroyer 'Derwent'; and the hydrographic ship 'Moresby'. He also served at the naval air station 'Albatross'.
He died at Southend-on-Sea, Essex, in March 2005.
