1939-45 Star, France & Germany Star; Defence & War Medals; L.S.G.C. (G.V.R. 2nd type) ( 1020079 S./Sgt., R.A.). Mtd as worn. With a photograph of the recipient in uniform and the original scroll of appointment for Walter Howard McGowan as a W.O.2. R.A. (30/11/38) in its cardboard tube. With a menu for the Mechanical Traction Branch Annual Dinner at Woolwich on 24/11/36 which shows S./Sgt. McGowan as being present and proposing a toast to the O.C. He was born at Woolwich in 1900, married at Godstone in Surrey in 1933, and died on 25/1/86 at 307 Croydon Road, Caterham, Surrey. He enlisted in the R.A. on 10/2/16, previously a munitions worker at Woolwich Arsenal. He was promoted to W.O.1. (Sgt-Major Artificer) on 7/8/41 and was commissioned as Lieut. (Q.M.) R.A. on 18/8/45.
