John Abel was born at Loughborough, Leicestershire, in 1844. In 1881 he was a Shoeing-Smith R.E. living at Aldershot Camp with his wife and four children. In 1891 and 1901 he was a storekeeper's labourer living in Gillingham, Kent. In 1911 he was a pensioner living at 14 Lower Milton Road, Gillingham, and he died there in the second quarter of 1912.
