The award was for services on H.M.S. 'Hussar' during Operation 'Antidote' - minesweeping operations from Galita to Sousse on the Tunisian coast in May 1943.
The 'Hussar' was a Halcyon class minesweeper of 1934 (815 tons, two 4-inch guns, crew of 80); she had the battle honours North Africa 1942, Arctic 1941-44, Atlantic 1943 and Normandy 1944. She was sunk in error by the R.A.F. on 27/8/44.
The recipient was born in Morningside, Edinburgh, in 1916 and married in Scotland in 1941.
