Robert Charles Mellodew-Marshall was born in Oldham on 14/6/14; he married in Warwick in 1941 and died in Eastbourne in May 1993. He joined the R.N.V.R. (S.C.C.) as Sub-Lt. 15/4/45, Lieut. 27/9/48, Lt-Cdr. 27/9/56; he was still serving in 1965 and is probably entitled to a bar to the medal. In 1939 he was an aeronautical engineer working for the Air Ministry and lived at 69 Monks Avenue, Barnet, Herts.
In the 1940s and 1950s he lived in Cheltenham and commanded the Cheltenham Sea Cadet Corps Unit No. 76; he was chief inspector at the engineering firm of Fielding and Platt at Gloucester Docks and was a prominent Mason in Cheltenham and later in Sussex.
