1939-45 Star, France & Germany Star; Defence & War Medals; G.S.M. 1918-62 one clasp 'Palestine 1945-48' (10683287 Cpl., R.A.S.C.); NETHERLANDS - Liberator's Medal. See above for the various accompanying items - boxes of issue for the W.W.2. awards, the G.S.M. and the Dutch medal; issue slip for the W.W.2. awards; certificates from the French and Dutch governments with accompanying letters; and a letter from the famous cricketer Alec Bedser to him in the Middle East 23/8/46 regarding the forthcoming tour of Australia. Francis George Mitchell was born on 5/4/23 at 95 Perth Road, Barking, London E.; his father was a glass blower in a bottle works. After service in the Home Guard he joined the Army and served with an amphibious unit of D.U.K.W.s in North West Europe 1944-45 and was later in Palestine until demobilised in late 1946. He became a chartered secretary and joined the Falkland Islands Company in 1950, visiting the Islands in 1953 and 1958. He became Secretary of the Company in 1955 and was then London Manager before serving as Managing Director 1973 to 1987 including the Falklands War of 1982. He died in Putney, London, on 14/4/11 aged 88.
