With copy service papers 1917-41. Edward Huntington Winley was born at Gateshead on 8/3/01 and was on the training ship 'Wellesley' before joining the training ship 'Ganges' on 29/7/16. He served as a Boy on the battleship 'Thunderer' 23/1/17 to 3/5/19 and then as a Stoker aboard her until 18/10/19.
He was then on the sloop 'Larkspur'; the battleship 'King George V'; and the cruisers 'Dartmouth', 'Southampton' and 'Birmingham'. He was posted to the R.F.R. on 8/3/24 and the L.S.G.C. was awarded on 13/9/35.
He was recalled briefly to 'Victory' in 1938 and then rejoined as a Stoker 1st Class on 27/8/39. He was on the repair ship 'Sandhurst' 1/11/39 to 3/8/40 and the destroyer 'Charlestown' from 12/9/40.
He was released from service on 7/10/45 and died in Gateshead in the second quarter of 1969.
